How2Play: Learn How to Play Teen Patti – Indian Card Game for Families & Kids

Ready for family fun with cards? Teen Patti (also called Indian Poker) is a classic card game enjoyed by friends and families all over India! It's simple to learn and super exciting to play. All you need is a regular deck of cards and a little bit of luck. Gather your group and let’s start the game!

What you need: A group of 3-6 players and a deck of 52 cards (no jokers).

How to Play Teen Patti – Easy Steps for Beginners

  1. Deal the cards: Shuffle and deal 3 cards face down to each player.
  2. Set the stake: Everyone puts a small coin or token in the center (the “boot” or starting pot).
  3. Play turns: Starting from the dealer’s left, each player can call (match the stake), raise (increase the stake), or fold (quit the round).
  4. Showdown: When only two players are left, one can ask for a “show.” Both reveal their cards; the best hand wins the pot!

Card Ranking: The best is “Trail” (three of a kind), then “Pure Sequence” (straight flush), “Sequence” (straight), “Color” (flush), “Pair,” and “High Card.”

Family Tips for Playing Teen Patti

  • Play for fun! Use coins, buttons, or snacks instead of real money.
  • Take turns dealing to keep everyone involved.
  • Make up your own fun rules or play in teams.
  • Practice reading your “poker face”—can you hide your excitement?
